South Korea's int'l pax surges 22.6% to 3.8 million in Apr-2012, cargo down

South Korea's Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs reports (28-May-2012) international passenger numbers reached 3.8 million in Apr-2012, the highest number for the month of April. Details include:

    • International: 3.8 million, +22.6% year-on-year;
    • By region:
      • Japan: 938,586, +52.2%;
      • China: 315,372, +3.2%;
      • Southeast Asia: 1.2 million, +21.6%;
      • Americas: 851,487, +10.2%;
      • Europe: 245,308, +13.8%;
      • Oceania: 115,419, +24.1%;
      • Others: 54,948, +21.4%;
    • Domestic: 2.0 million, +5.5%;
      • LCCs: 860,000, +11.3%;
  • Cargo volume: 284,000 tonnes, -3.1%;
    • International: 260,000 tonnes, -3.4%;
    • By region:
      • Japan: 35,768 tonnes, +3.5%;
      • China: 51,923 tonnes, -9.8%;
      • Southeast Asia: 72,957 tonnes, +4.3%;
      • Americas: 44,777 tonnes, -14.9%;
      • Europe: 45,193 tonnes, -2.3%;
      • Oceania: 4058 tonnes, -3.1%;
      • Others: 5054 tonnes, +31.9%;
    • Domestic: 24,000 tonnes, +0.9%;
  • Flights: 45,228, +9.2%.

According to the Ministry, South Korea's full service carriers accounted for 67.2% of total international passengers in Apr-2012, while the nation's LCCs accounted for 7.1% of the total international passenger numbers, up 3.8 ppts. South Korea's LCCs accounted for 42.4%, up 2.2 ppts of the total domestic passenger numbers in Apr-2012.
