South Korea's int'l pax numbers up 7% to 4 million in Oct-2012, cargo down

South Korea's Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs reports (22-Nov-2012) international passenger numbers rose 6.8% year-on-year in Oct-2012.

    • Domestic: 2.0 million, -0.3% year-on-year;
      • LCCs: 880,000, +3.2%;
    • International: 4.1 milion, +6.8%;
    • By region:
      • Japan: 915,989, -6.9%;
      • China: 1.0 million, +12.1%;
      • Southeast Asia: 1.3 million, +14.5%;
      • Americas: 337,618, +5.0%;
      • Europe: 284,310, +8.0%;
      • Oceania: 142,829, +11.5%;
      • Others: 63,311, -2.6%;
  • Cargo volume: 300,000 tonnes, -2.3%;
    • Domestic: 22,000 tonnes, -16.6%;
    • International: 277,000 tonnes, -0.9%;
    • By region:
      • Japan: 35,835 tonnes, -6.6%;
      • China: 51,486 tonnes, +3.4%;
      • Southeast Asia: 77,110 tonnes, +4.5%;
      • Americas: 56,523 tonnes, -2.5%;
      • Europe: 46,547 tonnes, -8.5%;
      • Oceania: 4411 tonnes, -7.8%;
      • Others: 5051 tonnes, +27%;
      • Flights: 47,954, +6.2%.

According to the Ministry, South Korea's full service carriers accounted for 66% of total international passengers in Oct-2012 while the nation's LCCs accounted for 7.8% of the total international passenger numbers, up 3.1 ppts. South Korea's LCC accounted for 43.7%, up 1.5 ppts of the total domestic passenger numbers in Oct-2012.
