South Africa's unions welcome Govt bailout for SAA: 'We need a new governance framework'

South African Cabin Crew Association (SACCA) president Zazi Nsibanyoni-Mugambi and National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA), via their official Twitter accounts, welcomed (03-Nov-2020) the South Africa Government's allocation of ZAR10.5 billion (USD661.2 million) to South African Airways (SAA) to implement its business rescue plan and restructuring. NUMSA disputed criticism of the move towards state ownership, stating: "We need a new governance framework… the current board and management have contributed to the collapse of the airline". NUMSA also called for trade unions to be represented on the SAA board as part of the restructuring process.
