Qatar Airways abandons IPO

Qatar Airways CEO, Akbar Al Baker, stated the carrier has abandoned its plans for a initial public offering, citing the "current economic recession" as making the move "futile" (Zawya Dow Jones/Bloomberg/Gulf News, 16-Sep-2011). The carrier had planned to launch an IPO after three consecutive years of profitability. Mr Al Baker stated earlier this year the carrier's IPO could be launched sometime between 2011 and 2013 and that it was considering listings in Doha and London.
