Norwegian sells Norwegian Air Argentina to JetSMART Airlines
Norwegian and JetSMART Airlines entered (04-Dec-2019) an agreement for JetSMART to acquire 100% of Norwegian Air Argentina (NAA), effective immediately. JetSMART will phase out the NAA brand in the domestic Argentinian network over several months. The agreement will not affect Norwegian Air UK's London-Buenos Aires service. NAA employees will be employed by JetSMART, with the exception of the company's Argentina based call centre staff. JetSMART will replace three Boeing 737s, previously operated by NAA, with A320 equipment over the six months ending Jun-2020. The three 737s will return to service with Norwegian in Europe. To minimise the effect on passengers, JetSMART will continue to operate NAA scheduled services from Buenos Aires Aeroparque Jorge Newbery Airport. Norwegian acting CEO Geir Karlsen stated: "As Norwegian moves from growth to profitability, we are taking all the necessary actions required to ensure that Norwegian is well positioned going forward".
