New Chengdu Airport to commence construction work in Dec-2013, open in Jun-2017: reports

China's second Chengdu Airport is reportedly expected to commence construction work in Dec-2013 and commence operations before Jun-2017, according to Carnoc.com. Once completed, the will have capacity for 80 million passengers, six million tons of cargo and 850,000 aircraft movements p/a, becoming the largest airport in China's west region and the nation's fourth largest international hub. The proposed airport, which will cover an area of 30sqkm and include five runways, will involve total investment of more than CNY60 billion (USD9.4 billion) and will be three times the area of Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport. As previously reported, the airport site selection proposal is awaiting final approval from CAAC and the National Development and Reform Commission.
