New Airbus narrowbodies to increase Air New Zealand domestic jet fleet and capacity

Air New Zealand, via its 2018 Investor Day release, reported (13-Jun-2018) the following plans for its incoming A320neo and A321neo aircraft:
  • A320neo: 165 seats, single cabin. Six aircraft to be acquired, four purchased and two on lease. Aircraft to be deployed on smaller markets across the Tasman and Pacific Island network, such as Wellington-Sydney and Christchurch-Melbourne;
  • A321neo: 214 seats, single cabin. Seven aircraft to be acquired, four purchased and three on lease. Aircraft to be deployed on larger markets across the Tasman and Pacific Island network, such as Auckland to Melbourne and Sydney;
  • Phase out of A320ceo fleet: Existing leased A320 aircraft currently on trans Tasman operations to be redeployed to service New Zealand domestic jet network. This will raise domestic jet fleet from 17 to 20 aircraft;
  • Arrival of A321neos: Three A321neo aircraft to be deployed on domestic network, replacing older leased A320ceo aircraft, which will be subsequently returned to lessors. This will result in capacity growth through up-gauging. [more - original PR]
