Munich Airport and Lufthansa expand on strategic cooperation agreement for long haul hub development

Munich Airport and Lufthansa signed (27-Oct-2020) an expanded LoI committing to the long term development of Munich Airport as a hub for intercontinental air traffic. The new agreement amends a previous agreement signed in Dec-2019 to acknowledge each company's commitment to develop intercontinental traffic despite the long term traffic impacts of COVID-19. The restoration of Lufthansa's fleet size based in Munich in 2019 will be reached from 2024. Lufthansa will then base up to 30 long haul aircraft and a corresponding European network to efficiently connect Munich Airport to the global air traffic network. The new agreement will also see both partners promote the use of sustainable aviation fuels at Munich Airport to contribute to climate protection targets.
