MTU Maintenance expanding capacity by 50% over next five years

MTU Maintenance announced (04-Dec-2019) it will expand by 50% over the next five years. Key development projects include:

  • Germany: Hannover facility to add 22,000sqm of facilities to its existing 35,000sqm operation, which includes a logistic centre and two test cells. Berlin Brandenburg opened a new logistics centre in Jun-2019. The ongoing reorganisation of the shop will create 30% more capacity to the site;
  • China: Ground was recently broken on a 50% expansion at Zuhai, which will take capacity to 450 shop visits by 2021. Capacity for the LEAP engine programme was also introduced at the Zuhai location in Sep-2019;
  • Canada: MTU Maintenance Canada is moving into a new facility that will expand capacity by 60%, and is in the process of introducing the mature CF6-80C2 program into its portfolio;
  • Malaysia: Airfoil Services, A JV with Lufthansa Technik, is also being expanded by 5200sqm;
  • Poland: EME Aero, a new JV, is being constructed specifically for the geared turbofan family in Poland and will work up to a capacity of 400 shop visits p/a;
  • Serbia: A new greenfield repair site in Serbia is in the planning stages. It will have capacity for 400,000 repair hours of engine component repairs p/a from 2022. [more - original PR]
