Mitsubishi rebrands MRJ as 'SpaceJet', launches M100 with US-specific configuration option

Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation announced (13-Jun-2019) a series of major changes for the Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ) aircraft programme, rebranding it as the 'Mitsubishi SpaceJet' family. Key details include:

  • The family design philosophy is "designed to address demand in the underserved regional jet market by delivering ultimate comfort for passengers and unmatched aircraft performance with more profit potential for airlines";
  • Product family will include the SpaceJet M90 (previously known as the MRJ90) and a new member, the SpaceJet M100, which has been developed out of the aircraft previously known as the MRJ70;
  • SpaceJet M100 will provide the "the answer to the regional market's current and future needs" with a slight stretch of the base MRJ70 design to add more seats and space for passengers. The aircraft will offer configurations for the US market and for other international markets. For the US, the aircraft is optimised to be scope clause compliant in the 65-76 seat, three-class cabin configuration. It can also be flexibly configured for other global market needs, offering up to 88 seats in single class cabin configuration;
  • SpaceJet M90 is expected to be delivered in 2020. [more - original PR]
