Malaysia Airlines to join oneworld on 01-Feb-2013

Malaysia Airlines announced (29-Oct-2012) it will become a full member of oneworld from 01-Feb-2013. The airline received clearance to join the airline alliance after successfully completing a review of its readiness by Qantas, which is sponsoring the airline's entry into the alliance. Malaysia Airlines' frequent flyer programme, Enrich, will see its members have their frequent flyer privileges extended to travel with any oneworld member airline including airberlin, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, LAN Airlines, Qantas, Royal Jordanian, S7 Airlines, and 25 affiliated airlines. Members of other oneworld airline frequent flyer programmes will also be able to earn and redeem awards and status points with Malaysia Airlines. With Malaysia Airlines joining oneworld, the alliance's network will see 14 destinations and one country in Southeast Asia added to the oneworld map. This will expand oneworld's global coverage to 840 destinations in 156 countries with 9000 departures per day. oneworld alliance airlines will operate a combined fleet of 2500 aircraft, carrying 340 million passengers p/a.
