Kenya's Industrial Court grants injunction blocking strike

Kenya's Industrial Court granted an injunction blocking the planned strike by several Kenya Airways employees. The court certified the application as urgent and directed that it be heard on 21-Oct-2010 (The Nation/Bloomberg, 11-Oct-2010). The union said 5,000 members could take part in the strike that was scheduled to commence on 13-Oct-2010, including employees from other carriers. Kenya Airways stock price fell to the lowest level in nine months, decreasing 2.3% on speculation over the strike.

Central Organisation of Trade Unions: "We wish to advise that for the sake of maintaining the current industrial peace both in the industry and in the country as a whole, we call upon the two parties to immediately engage in talks for purposes of averting the intended strike by workers scheduled for Wednesday this week." Francis Atwoli, Secretary General. Source: The Nation, 11-Oct-2010.
