Kenya Airways aiming to be 'very entrepreneurial': CEO

Kenya Airways Group MD and CEO Allan Kilavuka, speaking at CAPA Live from Puerto Rico October 2021, stated (13-Oct-2021) the carrier has "initiated lots of activities... that are driving us towards innovation" during the coronavirus pandemic period. Mr Kilavuka highlighted the following:

  • Established the Fahari Innovation Hub, which is "possibly Africa's only data driven airline innovation hub", according to Mr Kilavuka;
  • Repurposed passenger aircraft, particularly widebodies, for cargo operations. The airline's reconfigured Boeing 787s can handle about 50 tons of cargo to Asia or Europe;
  • Entered new partnerships and cooperation agreements. Mr Kilavuka said: "In this new world, we have discovered that it's not all about competing, it's actually a lot more about how we partner to make us more efficient and to make our partner also more efficient".

Mr Kilavuka commented: "Because things change very quickly, we are also trying to be very entrepreneurial in the way we approach things, very flexible, very agile".
