Japan considers airline ticket tax to beat global poverty

Japan's Foreign Minister Seiji Maehara stated the government will study a potential airline ticket tax as a way to impose an international solidarity levy to raise funds for eradicating world poverty (Kyodo, 23-Sep-2010). Japan chairs a group on innovative financing for development that consists of approximately 60 countries working to promote new funding initiatives.
