Japan announces airport fee reduction for domestic airline services

Japan MLITT announced (16-Oct-2020) plans to temporarily reduce airport landing and parking fees by 45% for all domestic services, which will be applied retroactively from Aug-2020 to Feb-2021, to support airlines due to the coronavirus pandemic (Reuters, 16-Oct-2020). The measure will apply to landing fees at 21 airports. Landing fees were previously charged at 67% by weight, 23% by noise and 10% by passengers, but will be revised to 77% by passenger and 23% by noise. A flat 45% reduction in parking fees will be levied. Japan's Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Kazuyoshi Akaba said the decision was made in view of an unprecedented decline in travel demand, and in an effort to sustain the country's air travel network, which supports economic and public activity.
