International pax to/from Australia up 3% in Jan-2013, cargo up 10%

Australia’s Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE) reports (03-Apr-2013) the following international traffic highlights to/from Australia in Jan-2013:

  • Passenger numbers: 2.9 million, +3.2% year-on-year;
  • Available seats: 3.6 million, +3.5%;
  • Flights: 14,228, +1.7%;
  • Cargo volume: 69,878 tonnes, +10.1%;
  • Aircraft movements: 14,914, +1.7%;
  • Top 10 international carriers:
    • Share of passengers carried:
      • Qantas: 16.9%, -0.8 ppt;
      • Emirates: 9.0%, +0.7 ppt;
      • Singapore Airlines: 8.7%, -0.2 ppt;
      • Jetstar: 8.4%, stable;
      • Air New Zealand: 8.0%, stable;
      • Virgin Australia: 7.8%, -0.3 ppt;
      • Cathay Pacific: 4.3%, -1.0 ppt;
      • Malaysia Airlines: 3.6%, -0.3 ppt;
      • AirAsia X: 3.4%, +0.9 ppt;
      • Thai Airways: 3.4%, stable;
