ICAO: Traffic at worlds 15 largest airports up 2.9% in Dec-2018

ICAO, via its monthly Air Transport Monitor, reported (12-Mar-2019) the following statistics for traffic at the world's 15 largest airports for Dec-2018:

  • Passengers: +2.9%. 13 of the 15 airports posted growth, with the exception being Tokyo Haneda (-1.5%) and Dubai (-1.7%). Atlanta retained position as the world's largest by passenger traffic, and topped the list in terms of growth rate (+7.2%), followed by Seoul Incheon (+6.3%). Beijing Capital remained the second largest for passengers, with growth of 3.0%;
  • Aircraft departures: +2.2% year-on-year. 13 of the 15 airports posted growth. Chicago O'Hare retained the 1st position and grew at +2.4%. The strongest growth in operations was recorded by Denver at +5.0%, followed by Amsterdam Schiphol at +4.7%;
  • Freight: -3.6%, with all 15 airports recording decreases, except for Dubai and Doha. The most significant decline was posted by Tokyo Haneda (-14.4%), followed by Paris CDG (-7.9%). Doha (+6.8%) continued to be the strongest performing airport followed by Dubai (+2.3%).
