ICAO secretary general: Traffic fell by 1.8bn pax in first eight months of 2020

ICAO secretary general Dr Fang Liu said (15-Sep-2020) there has been a fall of 1.8 billion passenger from Jan-2020 through Aug-2020, a 69% year-on-year decline. Dr Liu noted this translates into airline losses of between USD350 and USD400 billion. Dr Liu stressed that, in terms of a recovery, "ICAO is presently forecasting that traffic levels will return to 2019 levels no sooner than 2022, and possibly as late as 2024". [more - original PR]
