ICAO: Asia Pacific, Latin American & Caribbean and North American markets all improve in Jun-2016

ICAO reported (01-Sep-2016) world passenger traffic grew 5.2% year-on-year, "slightly higher than the growth in the previous month". International passenger traffic grew 5, up 0.7 ppts higher than May-2016. Global average passenger load factor was 80.7%. Capacity worldwide increased 5.6%, similar to the growth in May-2016 (+5.5%). Key regional highlights include:

  • The Asia Pacific, Latin American & Caribbean and North American markets saw improvements, while other regions experienced weakness;
  • Europe posted the weakest performance among all regions, impacted by the weather and strike related flight cancellations and terrorist attacks;
  • Traffic growth of the Middle East also posted a slow down due to the fall in oil price and timing of Ramadan;
  • The domestic market in India continued to show rapid expansion and grew by over +20% YoY. [more - original PR]
