IATA urges Africa and Middle East governments to adopt testing instead of quarantines

IATA stated (16-Sep-2020) quarantine measures are hampering the resumption of aviation operations in Africa and the Middle East. The association called for governments in the regions to implement testing as an alternative to quarantine measures when reopening their economies. IATA reported 35 African and Middle Eastern countries have adopted quarantine measures, an increase of seven countries since Aug-2020. The association stated: "The impact is that the region effectively remains in lockdown despite borders being open". Regional VP for Africa and the Middle East Muhammad Albakri commented: "Mandatory quarantine measures stop people from travelling... Quarantine destroys livelihoods. Testing is an alternative method that will also save travel and tourism jobs". [more - original PR]
