IATA: Economic and political backdrop points to 'modest and fitful' airfreight growth

IATA stated (02-Sep-2016) the current global economic and political backdrop points to continuation of just modest and fitful growth in airfreight in the years ahead. IATA said weak world trade growth, which is lagging behind industrial production, and trends including the miniaturisation of consumer electronics present headwinds for airfreight. IATA added opposition to further trade liberalisation in political rhetoric in Europe and North America raises risks and poses the question of whether we have surpassed 'peak trade openness'.
