IATA AGM 2013: Garuda eyes Jakarta-Paris as second long-haul nonstop route

Garuda Indonesia CEO Emirsyah Satar told (04-Jun-2013) CAPA on the sidelines of the IATA annual general meeting in Cape Town that the carrier is looking to launch services to Paris in 2014. He says Jakarta-Paris is the most likely next new European route for Garuda after Jakarta-London Gatwick, which the carrier plans to launch in Nov-2013. Mr Satar says Garuda also plans to serve by the end of 2015 one market in Germany and one market in Italy. Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich are under consideration for Germany and Milan and Rome for Italy. But France will come next as "that's where most Indonesians go". The European expansion is made possible by Garuda's new fleet of 777-300ERs. The carrier plans to take four 777-300ERs in 2013, followed by three aircraft in 2014 and three more aircraft in 2015.
