IAG confirms interest in bmi

International Consolidated Airlines Group (IAG) confirmed it is interested in bmi's slots at London Heathrow International Airport, but stated there is no "imminent" action from its side with regard to a possible sale of the carrier by Lufthansa , according to a Reuters report. Earlier this week, media reports indicated Lufthansa had appointed Morgan Stanley and other banks to review options for the carrier, including a potential sale, strategic partner or continued turnaround effort. IAG stated in early Sep-2011 it "would be interested" in acquiring bmi if it were offered for sale, according to Bloomberg.

Virgin Atlantic has meanwhile confirmed it has a "close interest in a combination with bmi" and an alliance between the two airlines would be a complimentary relationship.
