Hong Kong Airport reports 9.5% fall in Jul-2009 pax numbers

Hong Kong International Airport reports (16-Jul-09) the following traffic highlights in Jul-2009:

  • Passenger numbers: 4.0 million, -9.5% year-on-year;
  • Cargo volume: 291,000 tonnes, -8.3%;
  • Aircraft movements: 23,315, -9.9%.

Airport Authority Hong Kong: "The latest figures indicate that the downward momentum may have slowed. While we believe air traffic figures will see milder drops in the months ahead, it will take some time before overall traffic performance returns to pre-crisis levels…The business climate is still challenging as economic activities remain low and this couples with the difficult operating environment for the aviation industry would continue to affect the pace of recovery," Stanley Hui Hon-chung, CEO of Airport Authority Hong Kong.
