European Aviation Summit announces Declaration of Bruges

Belgian EU Presidency organised (29-Oct-2010) an Aviation Summit in Bruges 26-27-Oct-2010 to address key issues facing the European aviation industry. Association of European Airlines Secretary General Ulrich Schulte-Strathaus stated the recent European aviation summit and Declaration of Bruges - addressing the erosion of European competitiveness as a matter of fundamental concern - was an "important initiative of the EU Presidency". The declaration "found support from all sides - airlines, airports, manufacturers, unions and other EU bodies" for its proposed action plan. A key priority for the participants was the need to improve European airspace management procedures. This was made clear also in the opening address of Vice-President Kallas, EU Commissioner for Transport, who expressed his disappointment at the ongoing resistance towards the realisation of the Single European Sky programme.
