European airport pax up 4%, cargo down 1% in May-2013; Istanbul and Moscow airports lead growth

ACI Europe reported (04-Jul-2013) overall passenger traffic at European airports registered a "significant increase" of 4.3% year-on-year in May-2013 with many EU airports finally reporting improved traffic performance, recording an average growth of 2.8%. Passenger traffic at non-EU airports increased by an average of 10.7%. Cargo traffic remained in the negative, down 1.2% while aircraft movements fell 1.2%. Notable growth were seen at Turkey's Istanbul Ataturk Airport, up 18.4%, Moscow Sheremetyevo, +18.3%, Antalya, +14.2%, and Moscow Domodedovo, +13.6%. Ankara Airport, with annual passengers between five and 10 million, recorded a 23.6% growth in passenger traffic during the month. [more - original PR]
