Etihad Airways implements ICAO GADSS recommendations for flight tracking

Etihad Airways announced (27-Mar-2019) it implemented the ICAO Global Aeronautical Distress and Safety System (GADSS) recommendations for flight tracking ahead of the General Civil Aviation Authority's proposed deadline of 01-Jun-2019. Etihad Airways achieved this capability through its use of SITAONAIR's AIRCOM FlightTracker system, which utilises FlightAware data services to provide aircraft position updates every 15 minutes under normal conditions and once per minute when an aircraft is in distress. Etihad Airways VP Network Operations John Wright said the flight tracking technology "offers insightful capabilities to both anticipate and avoid adverse weather conditions and optimise fuel efficiency".
