Cork Airport expecting 95% traffic decline due to Ryanair cancellations
Cork International Airport MD Niall MacCarthy stated (28-Oct-2020) Ryanair's decision to cancel all flights from the airport from mid Nov-2020 to mid Dec-2020 is a "further body blow to the Irish aviation industry and to Cork and the South of Ireland in particular". Mr MacCarthy said the airport expects to have between 14 and 18 flights per week with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Aer Lingus serving Amsterdam and Heathrow from 15-Nov-2020 to 05-Dec-2020. He added: "We plan, with Government support, to continue to provide services for search and rescue flights, coastguard helicopter, Garda helicopter, Irish Aer Corps, Medical evacuation (medevac) and transplant flights". As a result of the cancellations, Cork Airport is expecting passenger numbers for Nov-2020 to be down from 172,000 in 2019 to 9000, a decrease of 95% year-on-year. [more - original PR]
