China Eastern loses 18% pax to high-speed rail in first 10 days

China Eastern Airlines Director Luo Zhuping reported passenger traffic on the carrier's Beijing-Shanghai sector has declined by 18%, load factor has declined by 5-6 ppts while its fares on the sector declined by 20% in the first 10 days since the opening of the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed rail link, which opened on 30-Jun-2011 (Yicai, 14-Jul-2011).
