Budapest Liszt Ferenc Airport to close Terminal 1 on 29-May-2012

Hungary's Budapest Liszt Ferenc Airport stated (10-May-20122) it will close Terminal 1 and its surrounding public carparks on 29-May-2012, with operations at the terminal to be moved to Terminal 2A (from Schengen countries) or Terminal 2B (from non-Schengen countries). The offices of Budapest Airport will remain in Terminal 1, and will be accessible via Gate B only. General aviation and air cargo remain operational in the area near Terminal 1, as before. As announced earlier, Budapest Airport will close Terminal 1 for passenger operations on a temporary basis. The loss of traffic in the wake of the collapse of Malév and additional tax burdens "leave Budapest Airport no other choice but to reduce operational costs by combining operational areas, and thus achieving a better utilization of the modern infrastructure of Terminal 2," it said. Negotiations are underway with Hungarian state railway company (MÁV) and the Budapest Transport Center (BKK) to offer transport connections between the railway station at Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. During the first two weeks, the ground transport partners of Budapest Airport, Főtaxi and Airport Shuttle Minibus, will also offer special services between the two terminals.
