Brisbane Airport pax up 4.5% to a record 21.5 million in 2012

Australia's Brisbane Airport reported (18-Jan-2013) a record of more than 21.5 million passengers travelled through the airport in 2012, an increase of 4.5% year-on-year. Brisbane Airport Corp CEO and MD Julieanne Alroe said the airport achieved the record result despite 2012 being "another challenging year for the industry both nationally and globally," and attributed the growth to "the resources boom, the addition of more seats and the scheduling of larger aircraft, coupled with very competitive airfares." During the year, the airport also achieved a new 'busiest day' record of 61,372 passengers on 29-Sep-2012. For the first time since 2009, growth in visitor numbers was achieved with emerging Asian markets such as China (19.2%) and India (9%) outperforming more mature markets. [more - original PR]
