Brazil to pick up pace of airport upgrades

Brazil plans to pick up the pace of work to improve its airports in preparation for the 2014 Football World Cup (AP, 29-May-2011). Brazil has acknowledged it is behind schedule but remains confident it will have the required infrastructure in place for the games. In an effort to hasten improvements, the Brazilian government announced airport upgrades will be opened up to private investments.

Brazilian Government: "It's true that work didn't progress as well as we would have liked. Our challenges in transportation go beyond the needs for the World Cup. It's about securing the country's development after the event, which will only last a month." Planning Minister Miriam Belchior. Source: AP, 29-May-2011.
