Boeing yet to recieve formal approval for re-engined B737

Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Jim Albaugh confirmed the company plans to offer a re-engined version of its B737 (AP, 20-Jul-2011). The aircraft will be powered by CFM International's new LEAP-X engine. Boeing customers "wanted more efficiency now" instead of waiting for an all-new narrowbody, said Mr Albaugh. Boeing hopes to have formal board approval for the aircraft in the northern autumn. Boeing spokesman Marc Birtel said it was "highly unlikely" that the manufacturer would reverse course and decide to develop an all-new aircraft instead.
