Boeing completes ETOPS testing for B787

Boeing announced (02-Aug-2011) it completed B787 extended twin-engine operations (ETOPS) testing on Sunday, during a test flight of ZA102, the ninth B787 built. The same aircraft flew the longest flight for the type to date at just over 18 hours last week. Boeing stated the B787 will be qualified for 330 minutes of ETOPS capability next year, following minor software modifications. Boeing will now spend the next few weeks finishing function and reliability (F&R) demonstrations that lead up to initial Type Certification of the B787 with Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines.
