Berlin Airports' targets already met, positive signs for Brandenburg

Berlin Airports announced (09-Mar-2011) that with recent traffic figures and route announcements, it has already achieved its targets for the new Berlin Brandenburg International Airport (BBI). ADV figures show Berlin Airports, which include Tegel and Schoenefeld airports, handled 22 million passengers in 2010, a 6.4% increase over 2009 and growth which is trending above the national average. The Berlin airport system is Germany's third-largest, behind Frankfurt and Munich, and has about 12% of all German traffic. Berlin Airports CEO Dr Rainer Schwarz announced BBI "will put Berlin back on the world map in terms of air traffic". The CEO stated airberlin's future membership in oneworld and Lufthansa's announcement to focus on targetting the Berlin market are positive signs for BBI.
