Beijing to construct second capital airport in 2011

Beijing plans to commence the construction of a new airport in the Daxing District designed to handle 80 million passengers p/a upon completion (People's Daily, 07-Mar-2011). The first phase of construction is expected to be finished within the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015), and 40 million passengers will be handled p/a. By 2015, passenger throughput will exceed 120 million. Although the new airport's location is not disclosed in Beijing's 12th Five-Year Plan, the district government has included airport construction in its development plan. Travel time between the airport and city downtown will be kept within 30 minutes, according to the plan.
