Australia reports 7.1% rise in Jan-2011 domestic pax

Australia’s Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE) reports (18-Mar-2011) the following traffic highlights for Australian domestic airlines in Jan-2011:

  • Passenger numbers: 4.5 million, +7.1% year-on-year;
  • Top ten domestic city pairs:
    • Melbourne-Sydney: 628,713, +2%;
    • Brisbane-Sydney: 331,030, -3.9%;
    • Brisbane-Melbourne: 241,804, +2.6%;
    • Gold Coast-Sydney: 237,817, +14%;
    • Adelaide-Melbourne: 200,762, +22.8%;
    • Gold Coast-Melbourne: 188,049, +30.5%;
    • Melbourne-Perth: 166,970, +15.3%;
    • Perth-Sydney: 151,736, +12%;
    • Adelaide-Sydney: 148,408, +1%;
    • Hobart-Melbourne: 126,155, +16.3%;
  • Load factor: 76.5%, -2.4 ppts;
    • Melbourne-Sydney: 82.4%, -1.2 ppts;
    • Brisbane-Sydney: 76.1%, -3.8 ppts;
    • Brisbane-Melbourne: 74.6%, -9.9 ppts;
    • Gold Coast-Sydney: 84.9%, +0.1 ppt;
