ATR forecasts more turboprop sales as fuel prices increase

ATR Director for Market Strategy, Jerome Gabory, stated the rising cost of fuel is renewing interest in turboprops, particularly on shorter routes, at the expense of regional jets (Bangkok Post, 15-Feb-2011). ATR booked 80 firm orders in 2010, as well as 33 purchase options. It ended 2010 with a backlog of 159 aircraft, with Asia Pacific and Europe each accounting for 32%.

ATR: "The market shares of turboprops and jets are really dependent on fuel prices. The higher the fuel prices the more market share for turboprops." Jerome Gabory, Director for Market Strategy. Source: Bangkok Post, 15-Feb-2011.
