American Airlines labour contract negotiations stall

American Airlines' contract negotiations with three unions to reduce the "USD800 million p/a disadvantage to rivals in labour expenses" have stalled, according to a Bloomberg, report. Pilots say "considerable gaps" remain as they plan to meet with executives to assess the next steps in the bargaining process that began in 2006.

Unions for the pilots, flight attendants and ground workers hope to recoup at least part of the USD1.6 billion in annual concessions made to avert bankruptcy in 2003.
