Air Canada proposed commercial JV with Emirates in 2006: report

Air Canada reportedly proposed a comprehensive commercial JV with Emirates in 2006 as a pre-condition to provide it access to the Canadian market, as per a proposal from Oct-2006 entitled, Proposed Framework for Commercial Cooperation (Gulf News/The Canadian Press, 17-Jan-2011). It proposed a "50/50 profit sharing formula for routes between Canada-UAE" and suggested a daily service between Dubai and Toronto Pearson with the possibility of expanding service to other cities. The information emerges as relations between Canada and the UAE continue to deteriorate after the Canadian Government refused to increase landing rights for UAE's two major airlines, Emirates and Etihad.
