Air Australia appoints administrator, says resumption of operations 'appears highly unlikely'

Air Australia (formerly Strategic Airlines) appointed (17-Feb-2012) John Park and Mark Korda of KordaMentha as voluntary administrators. The carrier stated, "In the short term, the fleet will be grounded. It currently appears that there are no funds available to meet operational expenses so flights will be suspended immediately. For clarity, it also appears highly unlikely there will be any flights in the short to medium term." The administrators will decide on the strategy for the group during the following days and weeks. Qantas and Jetstar are "looking at adding supplementary services" to assist affected passengers, Qantas CEO Alan Joyce said. Prior to its suspension, the airline deployed four A320 aircraft domestically in Australia and one A330-200 on services to Bali, Honolulu and Phuket.[more - original PR - Air Australia] [more - original PR - Brisbane Airport Corporation]
