A4A projects summer 2016 passenger volumes to exceed 2015 'all-time high'

Airlines for America (A4A) stated (18-May-2016) it expects summer 2016 passenger volumes to exceed the previous all-time high set in 2015 by 4%. Approximately 231.1 million passengers (2.51 million per day) are expected to fly in scheduled service on US carriers between 01-Jun-2016 and 31-Aug-2016. To accommodate the record volumes, carriers will be offering 2.78 million seats per day to meet demand, which equates to an increase of 109,400 seats year-over-year. A4A VP and chief economist John Heimlich stated: "We saw airfares fall throughout 2015 and that trend continued in the first three months of 2016. As airlines compete for passengers across an increasing portfolio of markets, air travel is becoming increasingly affordable and accessible." [more - original PR]
