464 services services cancelled in Japan; Sendai Airport flooded

Japan's MLIT stated 464 services, including those arriving and departing the flooded Sendai Airport, were cancelled on 12-Mar-2011 (Kyodo News, 13-Mar-2011). All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines also cancelled domestic flights at Tokyo Haneda Airport, affecting more than 25,000 passengers. Ibaraki and Hanamaki airports were also closed due to serious quake-triggered damage to their facilities, the ministry said. Other airports in the region are functioning. The Tohoku (Northeast) Shinkansen high-speed railway is not operating to Northern Honshu and domestic airlines are responding by operating extra flights to airports such as Fukushima. Seven JAL and ANA aircraft suffered damage. More than 30 international flights operated by the two Japanese airlines were cancelled at Haneda and Narita airports. Nationwide cancellations by JAL and ANA affected more than 60,000 passengers following the cancellation of around 300 services.
