Within the Riga Aviation Forum, a Cooperation Memorandum of the Aviation Industry with the Ministry of Transport of Latvia is signed

Within the framework of the International Riga Aviation Forum (RAF 2018), a Memorandum of cooperation between the Aviation Association of Latvia and the Ministry of Transport of Latvia representing aviation companies was signed on Thursday, May 10, which foresees closer cooperation between the industry and the Ministry for the development of aviation in Latvia.

The Memorandum, signed on Thursday by the Minister for Transport of Latvia Uldis Augulis and Member of the Board of the Aviation Association of Latvia, Artūrs Kokars, intends to develop a separate aviation strategy for the period from 2019 to 2025, based on a vision of the development of the industry across the entire range of aviation services, from passenger and freight transport to the development of regional aviation and aerodromes. The Memorandum intends to focus on both business aviation and aviation employment, education and research, aircraft construction, repair and maintenance, aeronautics and related services, as well as financial services and insurance of the aviation industry, aviation equipment manufacturing, supply and related industries, as well as remote aircraft services and their production.

The Memorandum also provides for the establishment of an Aviation Industry Domain, which will invite all participants of the aviation sector. A new cooperation platform will be established which will help to discuss the visions for the development of the aviation industry and address the challenges the industry is facing both in the policy planning process and in the improvement of the business environment.

The Minister for Transport Uldis Augulis emphasizes: "The aviation sector in Latvia is growing rapidly and becoming an increasingly important player in the national economy - its total investment already makes up 2.6% of the gross domestic product. With the regional leaders at the international airport "Riga" and the national airline "airBaltic", the sector has a significant development potential, which, in a targeted and structured cooperation between the industry and the state, can make a significant contribution to the development of the national economy."

"There is a very tight competition in the aviation industry, as a result of which the advantages of the regional leadership that we can enjoy today need to be used smartly and effectively. Access to information is no longer an obstacle, but the ability to use this information is a major challenge. Therefore, the main beneficiaries of the creation of the Aviation Domain will be the airline operators in Latvia, whose views and proposals will be taken into account in the planning processes of the national aviation policy," says Artūrs Kokars, Member of the Board of the Aviation Association of Latvia.

The International Riga Aviation Forum, which takes place on Thursday in Jūrmala, brings together nearly 200 participants from all over Europe - senior officials and experts from airports, airlines and other industry companies. The forum discusses industry-related issues such as airport and airline development strategies in a context of increased competition, the impact of new technologies on the development of the industry, employment and education challenges, and others. The forum is organized by the "Dienas Bizness" publishing house in co-operation with the international airport "Riga", SJSC "Latvijas Gaisa Satiksme", the Aviation Association of Latvia and the aviation service company "Airline Support Baltics".
