Covid: Alitalia EU testing company for Passenger Locator Forms

Direct News Source

In the period between 17 and 31 January, Alitalia was the testing company for the European Union initiative aimed at promoting the use by customers of digital Passenger Locator Forms, thus making contact tracking more effective and faster, following a possible identification of a Covid 19 positive passenger.

The initiative is part of the EU Healthy Gateways joint action in agreement with the Directorates-General for Health and Food Safety and for Mobility and Transport of the European Union, and in collaboration with EASA, the European aviation safety agency. In Italy, the project was coordinated by the Directorate General for Prevention of the Ministry of Health.

Passengers who traveled from Paris and Frankfurt, in the two weeks of testing, were requested to register and fill in the online form on the dedicated European platform. About one in two passengers responded positively to the request, providing their contact details in order to be contacted by the Health Authority if necessary.

After being the first airline in the world to introduce fully Covid-tested flights to identify any Covid positive passengers before boarding, with this testing Alitalia confirms its leadership in initiatives to combat the spread of the pandemic, collaborating with the European Union to identify new travel protocols, potentially also on routes that may require mandatory measures.
