Sydney (VIRGIN BLUE) - Virgin Blue’s first direct flight between Sydney and Rockhampton will touch down at 5.25pm today bringing with it a new era in convenient, affordable air travel for regional Queensland.
On board the inaugural flight will be Virgin Blue executives who will be assisting the ‘appropriately themed’ crew with traditional Virgin Blue launch flight activities.
Upon arrival at Rockhampton Airport, the inaugural flight will be met by Virgin Blue Chief Executive Brett Godfrey. The first flight will also be welcomed by a number of local and visiting VIP’s who have applauded Virgin Blue’s strategy of investing jet services into key regional ports.
Virgin Blue’s new direct Rockhampton-Sydney services will initially operate three times each week and will be in addition to the existing daily Virgin Blue flight between Rockhampton and Brisbane.
Chief Executive, Brett Godfrey, said, “We are proud to be the only carrier offering a direct flight between Rockhampton and the New South Wales capital and are hopeful that the people of Rockhampton will embrace it with the same enthusiasm they have shown for our Brisbane services.
“We are committed to supporting the regions that support us and have demonstrated that by choosing Rockhampton as the destination to benefit from our network expansion.”
The Rockhampton City Council team has worked closely with Virgin Blue to secure the new services, which are expected to suit business Guests as well as those travelling to and from Sydney for pleasure.
Brett Godfrey added, “It’s timely that we “beef up” our flights during ‘Beef Australia’, one of the biggest weeks of the year for the Rocky region and with the launch of these new Sydney services, we look forward to providing more choice, more convenience and great fares to the people of Rockhampton.”
