BANGKOK (Thai Airways) - Thai Airways International Public Company Limited prepares for its newest Airbus A340-600 aircraft to fly His Excellency Dr. Thaksin Shinawatra, Thailand's Prime Minister and members of the Thai Cabinet, together with members of the Managing Committee for the Development at Suvarnabhumi Airport, as the first aircraft to land at Suvarnabhumi Airport. In addition, THAI has arranged to utilize one of its Boeing 747-400 aircraft to fly more than 400 honoured guests and members of the press to the new airport.
Mr. Kobchai Srivilas, THAI's Senior Executive Vice President for Corporate Planning and Information Technology Services Department and Chairman of the Managing Committee for THAI's investment at Suvarnabhumi Airport, said that THAI's preparations are in place for the 29th September 2005, which will be the First Technical Test Flight to Suvarnabhumi Airport. The First Flight to Suvarnabhumi Airport will be attended by His Excellency Prime Minister Dr. Thaksin Shinawatra, members of the Thai Cabinet, members of the Managing Committee for the Development at Suvarnabhumi Airport, honoured guests and members of the press, totaling more than 600 people. On this occasion, THAI has arranged special flights utilizing an Airbus A340-600 aircraft which is THAI's newest aircraft type in the fleet and a Boeing 747-400, both displaying the new livery and interior decoration of THAI's new corporate identity, to be the first aircraft to land at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
As for the readiness of landing the two aircraft at Suvarnabhumi Airport, THAI has arranged to migrate Ground Handling Equipment, such the Air Conditioning Tractor (ACT), Ground Power Unit (GPU), Air Starter Unit (ASU), etc. from Bangkok International Airport (Don Muang) to Suvarnabhumi Airport for the First Technical Test Flight. In addition, THAI has prepared for its Ground Customer Services staff to test the check-in system and facilitate all passengers re-boarding for the return flight from Suvarnabhumi Airport. THAI has also prepared technicians and engineering staff as well as aircraft maintenance equipment to support this historical event. THAI is confident that all staff and equipment used at the event will perform smoothly.
As the 29th September 2005 will mark the first landing of THAI's aircraft at Suvarnabhumi Airport, THAI has designed a special boarding pass and souvenir for all passengers traveling on this special flight.
The Airbus 340-600 aircraft will be the first aircraft to land at Suvarnabhumi Airport. This aircraft, the newest type in THAI's fleet, features the interior based on THAI's new corporate identity, and is equipped with the newest inflight entertainment system. THAI has prepared to show an inflight video presentation on Suvarnabhumi Airport on this special flight as well as on all of THAI's flights in order to help promote Thailand's newest airport for overseas travelers and the general public.
THAI will be involved in activities to celebrate the First Technical Flight to Suvarnabhumi Airport on the 29th September 2005, including staff participation in the mini marathon, hosting lunch and welcoming guests and members of the press at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
