Swedish traffic stumbles, more chilling data from Mexico - Share Wrap

Sweden's LFV Group reports further weakness in passenger traffic in May-2009, with total passenger numbers across Sweden's airports falling 15% last month, following a 16% reduction in Apr-2009. Stockholm-Arlanda Airport handled 1.4 million passengers last month, down 16% year-on-year, following a 15% reduction in Apr-2009. This weakness may have contributed to the 1.2% reduction in Copenhagen Airport's share price yesterday.

Vienna Airport's shares fell 2.4%, while Fraport was 1.4% lower. European airlines are expected to report a combined USD1.8 billion net loss in 2009 - a major downgrade since the March estimate of a USD1.0 billion loss.

Meanwhile, more grim traffic reports are emerging from swine flu central. Mexico's Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte (OMA) reports the following traffic highlights in May-2009:

  • Passenger numbers: 753,400, -39.7% year-on-year;
    • Domestic: 670,100, - 37.6%;
    • International: 83,300, -52.7%.

OMA's shares fell 1% yesterday. Rivals GAP and ASUR rose 0.3% and 1.8%, respectively.
