Southwest, Hawaiian, United shares sag – SHARE WRAP

It was a tough day at the office for US airlines yesterday. Amid a broad market sell-off, US carrier stocks dived over renewed concerns about the recovery in the US economy.

Southwest Airlines’ shares fell 8% as the carrier confirmed it would commence services to New York's LaGuardia Airport in Jun-2009, pitting it against Delta (shares -4.0% yesterday) and several others.

Hawaiian Airlines shares slumped 7.8%, while United lost 6.7% and JetBlue eased 5.7%.

Brazil’s GOL and TAM fared much better, rising 4.1% and 3.9%, respectively.
