Scoot is focusing expansion on India over the next few months with the launch of services to Amritsar, Chennai and Jaipur. The Singapore Airlines (SIA) medium/long haul low cost subsidiary will rely heavily on transit traffic to fill up its new flights from India, just as it works to implement an initiative that will improve connectivity with other SIA Group airlines.
Scoot will be the first SIA Group airline in the Amritsar and Jaipur markets, although Singapore Airlines previously operated to Amritsar from 2004 to 2009. The SIA Group will extend its network in India to 15 destinations as Scoot becomes the fourth SIA Group brand in the Indian market – or the fifth when the local joint venture airline Vistara is included.
In Chennai Scoot is taking over from its short haul sister LCC Tigerair, which is dropping its 11 weekly A320 flights in late May-2016 as Scoot launches a daily 787-8 service. Chennai will be the third destination in six months that Scoot has taken over from another SIA Group airline.
